5 Tips For a Better Night’s Sleep

With the busy lives we lead, it can be difficult to get a good night’s sleep. One of the worst things, in my opinion, is a night where I feel rushed to get to sleep. Those are the nights where I toss and turn and wake up feeling drained of all energy.

Why deal with that when there are some simple ways to give yourself a good night’s sleep? Not only is it better for your mental and physical well being, but it is an act of self love. Today, I’m sharing with you some of my tried and true ways to fall asleep quick and sound. 5 Tips For a Better Night's Sleep | Do you have trouble falling asleep? Try a new routine including these tips. These are my tried and true ways to fall asleep quickly and soundly.

1. Take time to wind down | I always try to be in bed by 9:30 (or an hour before bedtime). This isn’t what time I go to bed, but it’s the time I start to wind down. I usually spend this time chatting with my fiance or getting some reading done. Regardless of what you choose to do during this time, use it to lay in bed and let your body relax for the night.

2. Put the technology away | I don’t know about you, but technology makes my head race. The last thing I want at bedtime is for my mind to be running a million miles a minute. Plus, our minds tend to get so absorbed in social media or whatever we do on our phones. Take time before bed to be distraction free and let your mind settle down.

3. Have a cup of tea | I don’t do this often, but when I do, it’s a treat. Drinking a cup of tea will warm up your body, making you feel nice and cozy. Depending on the type you drink, the herbs used might also have relaxing effects. My favorite bedtime teas are Yogi’s Honey Lavender Stress Relief, Twining’s Pure Peppermint, and Tazo’s Calm Chamomile tea.

4. Read | Bedtime is the only time I have to get any reading done, but that’s not the only reason I like to read before bed. Reading gives your mind something to focus on. Instead of hopping from thought to thought, you’re focused on one story line. This helps put your mind at ease before closing up shop for the night.

5. Meditate | When all else fails, my favorite thing to do it meditate. My fiance and I use the Calm app a few nights a week. We usually do a body scan mediation. This helps us focus on our breathing and remain present, all while relaxing our minds and bodies. I must say, nothing feels better than falling asleep while being in a fully present state. Whenever I meditate before bed (honestly, I usually fall asleep halfway through), I sleep soundly through the night and wake up most refreshed. If you have trouble falling asleep, I’d highly recommend trying a meditation app like Calm or Headspace.

  1. I have a special tea I drink only before sleeping – my brain just ticks into sleepy mode as soon as I smell it and it is really an infusion, so it doesn’t keep me awake 🙂

  2. That lavender tea sounds amazing! We bought programable lights furor apartment so by the time we go to bed all the lights are red, which helps your mind get ready to sleep.

  3. Great tips! These are all things that I know I need to do yet struggle to implement consistently! I was drinking chamomile tea consistently at one point and it really helped. I really need to get back to reading in bed instead of checking my social media accounts in bed too.

    1. Try starting with just one at a time. I make it a point to do at least one of these things every night, and usually, I choose reading. Don’t feel like you have to do it all, or you’ll feel overwhelmed!
